Admin Experience

Instructional Leadership
Summary: The best supervisor leads with an understanding that the strongest school communities are built with a shared vision that is practical, achievable and based on the needs of the school’s culture.  The needs of the school culture are understood and shared by administrators, faculty members, parents, students and any stakeholder who lives in the community. All stake holders should have a voice and influence in the decisions that an effective supervisor makes.

School Climate:
Summary: When speaking about nurturing a school culture and climate, it is important to think about what type of leadership works for a school.  What it takes to be a leader can have a very broad interpretation. In Sergiovanni's book, Rethinking Leadership, he explains that a bureaucratic nature of leading is not beneficial to the moral, cultural or academic success of a school.  Therefore it is important to note that the type of leadership that works in other institutions usually does not apply to leadership at a school.  Instead, a school leader should seek a "transformative" style of leadership. In other words, all stakeholders must feel a sense of belonging while having a voice in decision making. In turn, buy-in is more likely to develop which leads to positive transformation.

Communication and Community Relations
Summary: The principal’s moral duty is to diffuse, facilitate and lead all stake holders towards the vision and mission of the school. In order to create a unified mission, a principal must know what the school mission is and be able to clearly and concisely identify a path that leads towards school wide achievement. A principal must be able to read the pulse of the school community and act precisely and swiftly in a clear and focused regard.
